May 3, 2012 - Mike Watt (interview)
Bassist Mike Watt stormed out of San Pedro, California in the early 1980's with the influential punk power trio the Minutemen; blending elements of funk, jazz and classic rock into the hardcore scene. The tragic death of his close friend and bandmate, D. Boon, put an end to that great...
Apr 27, 2012 -- Scissormen (audio interview)
Scissormen take blues back to its raw basics: guitar and drums.  Yet, it's amazing how much intensity the band brings in its live show.  It doesn't hurt that singer Ted Drozdowski is one hell of a fantastic slide guitarist, who's been known to stroll whatever room will have them, standing...

EXCLUSIVE! - Thoughts on the upcoming Beach Boys album

Beach Boys - That’s Why God Made the Radio - first take The fine folks at Capitol / EMI Records have snuck us an early copy of the brand new album from the reunited Beach Boys.  We’ll be taking the time to post our thoughts here - keep checking back for more updates.

First impression: Great harmonies.  Lots of Brian, and he sounds good.  Earthy production.  Catchy songs, lots of melody too.  Of course, a lot of the lyrics deal with nostalgia, but shouldn’t that be the case?

The bottom line: If you like the Beach Boys, any era, you will not be disappointed here.  This is not an embarrassment, as so much of their material over the last 30 years has been.   In fact, we’re really impressed so far.  Stay tuned for more updates.

They ain’t fakin’

I haven’t had this much fun listening to an album in a long, long time.  We need more record companies like the London-based Fantastic Voyage.   They’ve consistently put out fun-themed collections for some time now.  Their latest is A Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, a double disc set containing 50 tracks from the late Fifties / early Sixties, and everyone of them featuring the word “shake” in the title.  Lovingly compiled by Stuart Colman, who also gives background on each track in the CD booklet.  What he’s put together is one helluva great party album.
