Interesting Article on the State of CDs

CNN published an interesting article on the state of the music industry. You can read it here. Of course, I'm an old school record guy, so I'd hate to see the CD phased out. Although I download music, it's just not the same as owning a physical copy of it, be it CD, record or whatever. With a download, you rarely get the artwork either.
What do you think?

Comments
1. If we abandon CDs, then how do we borrow music from the library??
2. Didn't you tell me that digital formats are usually lower quality files?
3. If downloading from the internet is the only way to buy music, then what about the people without decent broadband service? Are we ready to simply exclude those people from the market? (That is not going to help music sales!)
1. Many libraries across the country are already offering books in digital download format for Iphone or whatever. They also offer audio books the same way. Starting to do audio CDs that way wouldn't be that big of a stretch! These files simply expire on your mp3 player after about two weeks.
2. Mp3 files ARE inferior quality compared to CDs, yet it's obvious that the average consumer doesn't care or can't tell the difference.
3. What about those people without ANY internet? A solution would be to turn places that now sell music into downloading stores where you could take your Ipod in and fill it up.
If they got rid of CDs, they would certainly lose a certain percentage of the market that likes to buy "remastered" CDs. What's the use in improving the sound only to dumb it down to mp3? Makes NO sense!
